OBN agents are required to provide official credentials when requested. If a registrant is ever contacted by OBN and they have concerns about the legitimacy of the call, we encourage them to make a return call to OBN at 40 and ask to verify the employment of the agent calling or to request the agent meet them in person. Additionally, the OBN will not solicit money in lieu of a criminal investigation, nor will they call and threaten criminal action. The OBN will never contact a registrant, in any manner, and ask them to provide any of their registration or license numbers. They will then attempt to obtain information or money from the registrant and furthermore tell the registrant that failure to comply will result in a warrant issued for their arrest. In other instances, the caller will advise the registrant that there have been suspicious prescriptions issued and that there is an investigation into the registrant. The caller will, in some instances, ask the registrant to provide their NPI, OBN, or DEA numbers. In some instances, the caller ID appears to show DEA phone numbers on the recipient’s phone. The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (OBN) has recently been made aware of individuals impersonating OBN and/or Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agents during phone calls that are being placed to OBN registrants.
